How I Got Here

My degree is in Philosophy and Ethics. That's not the usual on-ramp to engineering leadership, but it turns out that learning to pick apart arguments; is this logically consistent, what are the consequences, does this actually hold together, is pretty good training for building systems and leading the teams that ship them.

I started my career at Sun Microsystems, then spent the next two decades moving between startups and enterprise. I co-founded two companies... BetterCare and LeapCure, which went through the 500 Startups accelerator and which I built and sold. In between, I led engineering teams building high-scale products for the NFL, Fox Sports, and Activision/Blizzard.

Those same questions my professors drilled into me still show up in how I approach architecture, team building, and AI. Does this hold together? What breaks when you scale it? Who does it serve?

What I’m Focused on Now

Today I'm deep in the shift happening around AI-assisted software delivery, specifically agentic coding and spec-driven development. I organize a meetup community around these topics, and I've led hands-on workshops on responsible AI covering bias in LLMs, privacy, and security.

I previously volunteered with Teens Exploring Technology and served as a Responsible AI Champion for AI LA.

When I step away from the screen, I'm usually in the garden, under the hood of a car, or reading about something I know nothing about yet.
